You love dogs and you live in an apartment

We can relate!

We are a married couple living in Minneapolis, MN who have raised multiple dogs in apartment-sized homes. Small spaces have allowed us to adapt to to ways that better provide for our dogs.

Apartment Dog is the culmination of the work and passion that we have put into our dogs. We have dedicated hours to studying and learning about dog behavior and training. After talking with people, it became clear that we were not the only people struggling with owning a dog in an apartment.

Our content is designed to provide helpful and actionable information to assist you in deciding whether to get a dog or improve the apartment living of your current pup.

We write about training, behavior, health, dog related products, books and prominent figures.

We are not the end all, be all experts in the dog world. Far from it. But our practices work and we enjoy some very well behaved and lovely dogs in our small apartment. Please do not take our advice and writings as individualized professional advice.

Our Philosophy

With the proper training, stimulation and time, all dogs can live happy lives in apartments.

There is no such thing as a bad dog, only bad training.

“You can be strict, but you don’t have to be unfair.” -Buck Brannaman

Dogs juggle their own self-interest with pleasing you. Dogs are never spiteful or mean. Humans misunderstanding dog’s behavior is one of the core problems with dog ownership

Positive punishment training may produce results, but at the expense of the dog-owner bond.

Dog training and dog ownership begins and ends with understanding yourself. If you want to improve your dog’s behavior or your relationship with your dog, look in the mirror first.

Dogs are pure and proud animals and we are lucky to have them.
